In the seventies Knoll International set new standards for interior decorating. Stylish well balanced furnishing was supposed to be possible for everyone with the sophisticated furniture programme of the house of Knoll. Exclusive fabric collections were created which consisted of carpets, curtain fabrics or furniture coverings. The contracted designers could determine the major part of the shape, design and colour by themselves, however the designs had to be suitable for integration into the overall concept. Matching the most well known seating collections by Knoll International, the German designer Sigrid Wylach designed a carpet collection between 1972 and 1976, which captured the design and shapes of the seating collections and re-interpreted them. Because the Knoll carpets of the seventies were intended as harmoniously integrating components of the interior furnishing. Just like the furniture, the carpets reflected not only the functional interests but also the design interests of people. |
