The Finnish architect and artist Eliel Saarinen (father of Eero Saarinen) initially stood for a rustic style that was influenced by the “Viennese Succession” and the German Art Nouveau movements. Saarinen first worked in Düsseldorf, later in Helsinki (where he designed the train station and national museum in Finnish Art Nouveau style – the national romanticism. After his emigration to the U.S., he became the first director of the legendary Cranbrook Academy, where Florence Knoll or Harry Bertoia among others studied. The House Armchair was designed by Saarinen for his house in Cranbrook at the end of the 20’s. Other pieces of this line (couch and table) are available on request.
