The so-called “Barcelona Couch” was, strictly speaking, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe a year after the world exhibit and in cooperation with Lilli Reich. Only a few couched were produced before world war 2; mostly handmade. One of the couches was made for the appartement of Philipp Johnson in New York.

In 1948, the piece was produced for the first time by Knoll International and was used in the interior decoration of the Farnworth-house. After Mies van der Rohe’s imigration to the U.S. in 1933, his designs found a new home thanks to the influence of his student Florence Knoll. At Markanto, the Barcelona Couch is available in the standard black leather covering. For other variations, please send us an email.
