Originally the Frankfurter Chair (or simply “Chair”) was designed by the “Bombenstabil” company, which had it patented in 1935. “Bombenstabil” received its first large order in 1938 for the seating of the team housing for the Olympics in Berlin. Later the chair, the construction of which was based on the bentwood chair technology, was produced in high quantities. It became the standard chair for the German postal service, train company and military (with a sales price of only 5 marks a piece in 1937). The success story of the chair continued after the war and into the 60’s, in which the Frankfurter chair became the standard furniture for not only many agencies, but for hotels and schools as well. It was manufactured by Thonet, Kusch & Co, Rösch and many other companies.
