The Italian company Zanotta was founded in 1954. By the end of the 60’s, it had achieved an international breakthrough by means of the Italian designs of Radical Design. In addition to the contemporary artists of the time like Joe Colombo, Achille and Pier Castiglioini, Superstudio, Studio DDL or Marco Zanuso, Zanotta also presented Italian design classics of the 30’s and 40’s.

The Sant’elia chair by Giuseppe Terragni from 1936 certainly belongs to this group. It was, admittedly, conceived for Mussolini’s fascist party headquarters in Como, which Terragni also designed. This is where the opinions are divided. Does good design have to be democratic? Terragni is, nonetheless, surely one of the most important representatives of the Rational Italian architecture. He died in 1943.
