by Eero Saarinen
Eero Saarinen was born in Finnland and the son of the famous architect and founder of the Cranbook academy Eliel Saarinen. The Saarinen family moved in the 30ths to the U.S. and in 1940, in collaboration with Charles Eames, Eero Saarinen designed an organically formed reading chair for the “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After the war, Saarinen designed more organically formed chairs such as the Womb Chair or the Chair 72 shown here from 1951.
The chair 72 is available with upholstery in either Tonus or in Knoll Textiles (other leather coverings available on request). The foot comes in chrome-plated steel, either in natural oak or stained black (dark brown stain on request). Also available as swivel chair.
